Clinical Psychologist


The North East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking a dynamic, proactive and experienced individual with strong analytical and team player skills to fill the position of Clinical Psychologist for the parishes of St. Mary and Portland.


Reporting to the Medical Officer of Health, The Psychologist will conduct group sessions and provide one-on-one support for children, adolescents and their parents referred through Child Guidance Clinics.

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • MSc. Degree in Clinical Psychology
  • At least two (2) years experience in Child Psychology and Counseling
  • Experience in individual and group counseling would be an asset

 

Key Duties

  • Providing psychotherapy for adults in treatment facilities.
  • Providing specialist psychological advice, guidance and support in a skilled and sensitive manner to relatives and caregiver of service users, where appropriate, to enhance the service provided to the service users.
  • Participating in the preparation of quarterly review and yearly programme plans for the child and adolescent facilities in the Region and regional plan for the Child Guidance Clinics.
  • Evaluating children and adolescents who are referred to or walk into the clinic to facilitate diagnosis and management strategies of behavioural, emotional and psychiatric disorders and for their families.
  • Liaising and networking with other agencies, school officials, civic groups, police, churches, etc in the care provided to service users.
  • Delivering educational talks/presentations on topics related to child and adolescent mental health and child development and parenting.
  • Providing the necessary supervision and guidance to Social Workers, Mental Health Officers, Psychiatric Aides, clerical staff and professionals in training to ensure optimum client services are met.
  • Participating in the training of health and non-health professionals in areas of Child and Adolescent Mental Health assessment and management of the traumatized child (Child Abuse), Normal and Abnormal Child Development and Parenting.

 

Required Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, to communicate complexed, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, care-givers etc.
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialized psychological therapies.
  • Skilled in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
  • Ability to supervise others effectively.
